Reiki & Energy Work for Animals

Please see our Reiki page for general information about this healing practice.

Reiki is one form of energy work, and is a natural, non-invasive, safe healing modality that supports the body’s healing process. It is an excellent complement to veterinary care and works to accelerate healing from an illness, injury or surgery.

Working with the body’s energy system, Reiki (and other forms of energy work) promotes overall health and well-being and assists in reducing anxiety and problem behaviors. Thus, animals and their caregivers can benefit greatly from incorporating Reiki into their lives.

This natural, healing energy is most often used to:

  • Naturally support overall health and well-being
  • Facilitate healing from an illness, injury or surgery
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Reduce behavioral issues
  • Support the immune system
  • Assist in pain relief, particularly with arthritis and joint issues
  • Reduce stress and depression
  • Facilitate detoxification for liver and kidney problems
  • Enhance the effects of other therapies and treatments
  • Provide comfort during periods of grief from losing a caregiver or friend
  • Provide comfort during end-of-life transitions
  • Assist in the transition of rescue animals to their new homes
  • Assist abused animals to overcome previous mistreatment

Animals are generally most relaxed and comfortable – and, therefore, most open to treatment - in the home or barn where they live. Therefore, we offer all sessions at the animal’s location (distance sessions are available by request).

About Aimee Jo

Growing up in a family that bred and raised cats, dogs, birds, horses, rabbits and other animals throughout her childhood, Aimee Jo has had the opportunity to care for animals at all stages of their lives. She also showed and trained horses for over a decade.

In her small hometown, her family has been known for taking in and caring for sick, abandoned or injured animals of every species for three generations – dating back to when her grandmother ran an animal shelter out of her home, before there was an ASPCA in the area.

She carries on this tradition now by sharing her home with as many rescue animals as possible - currently one dog, three cats and a hamster – and she is continually thankful for the love, companionship and joy they bring into her life.

Aimee Jo is Vegan, so you can rest assured that all products and tools used in any of her services are cruelty-free. To learn more about Aimee Jo, please visit our About Us page.

She has experience working with horses, cattle, cats, dogs, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, birds and buffalo, as well as other animals.

Session Information

In-person sessions can incorporate light hand placement for animals that are comfortable being touched, or from a nearby location (for example a bird in a cage and the practitioner nearby).

Animals are much more in tune with energy vibrations and their own energy systems than humans are. Therefore, on occasion animals will feel stronger sensations during a session. Most often, these sensations are welcome and the animal will become more relaxed during and after a session. There are some instances where these sensations may feel strange to them. If this is the case, we will start with shorter sessions and work up to full sessions as the animal’s comfort increases.

It is recommended that performance animals (such as show horses) are not exercised or used for performance for at least 24-hours after a treatment. This will allow them to integrate any new sensations, such as increased energy flow.

Initial treatments should never take place the day of, or the day before, a show or performance. Animals experience Energy Healing in different ways; therefore, we will want to assess their individual reaction before determining if pre-performance sessions are appropriate.

On occasion, distance sessions may be more appropriate, for example if the animal is in the hospital, is not comfortable with people being close to them, or if the animal and their family live a considerable distance from the practitioner.

For in-person sessions, all that is needed is a space that is somewhat quiet, with minimal distractions.

You will want to make sure that plenty of fresh, clean water is available to the animal after their treatment. You may notice that they will sleep more or be somewhat less active for a short time after treatment. This is normal and stems from the deep relaxation that often is experienced by both people and animals that receive Reiki and other forms of Energy Healing.

We recommend 30-minute sessions for small animals, such as dogs and cats. For larger animals, such as horses, 60-minute sessions are generally more beneficial.

We recommend the following treatment plans based on the desired benefits:

Illness, Injury or Surgery

  • Week One: One session per day for four consecutive days
  • Week Two: Three sessions spaced one day apart
  • Week Three: Two sessions spaced at least two days apart
  • Week Four and beyond: One session per week, or as needed

Anxiety and Behavioral Issues

  • One session per week for four weeks
  • As needed after the initial four-week period

Overall Health & Well-Being/Immune Support

  • One session per month

Transition to New Home

  • One session per week for animals that appear to be adjusting well
  • One session every other day for animals with greater difficulty adjusting or for animals with special needs

Please note that Reiki, and other healing modalities, are not meant to replace medical advice, care and treatment. Rather, they work in conjunction with medical treatments to facilitate the body’s own, natural healing process. Please continue to consult your veterinarian for any symptoms, illnesses or injuries.
